Mazda, along with several auto manufacturers these days, have incorporated a “Sound Tube” into their intake systems on newer cars. What’s a sound tube you say? Why did they do it? Why is it cluttering up my engine bay? I can’t fit my fancy new shock tower brace with it in the way! Why would they go through the expense for zero performance gain? Why does the engine seem to sound better without it? These are all very good questions…  Without going into too much detail, we’ll just say that we like the way the engine sounds without anything artificial added to the experience… ESPECIALLY after we start doing mods to the exhaust and such that we WANT to hear, or we simply prefer to hear more clearly the audio system we’ve worked so hard to improve and dial in!
Enter the Paco Moto Sound Tube Delete Kit. We’ve designed this piece to replace the clunky, cluttered mess that is the factory sound tube, and do so with a bit of flair. The main priority was to go about things like a medical professional… “First, do no harm…” Following removal of the silly sound tube, we needed to plug the hole in the rubber hose in front of the throttle body, and provide a connection for another rubber hose that routes nearby to the valve cover. We began with a CAD designed, CNC machined aluminum piece, which fits perfectly into the hole in the rubber hose, and includes a threaded and barbed fitting for the smaller hose to connect. These aluminum pieces are professionally anodized in “bright black”, and our fancy little logo is then laser etched as a final step.
Why do we think ours is the best? Well, it’s downright pretty for one. It’s also shaped so perfectly to fit in its intended spot that we may have gone a little overboard with the efforts and expense to do so. Probably our favorite feature is that the bottom of the piece is the perfect length to come flush with the inside of the rubber tube, and only has a hole diameter of the size of the rubber tube that attaches on top. That’s important because it helps maintain smooth airflow into the throttle body, rather than disrupting it with a large inside diameter like some other pieces out there can, including the factory piece. Did we mention how pretty it is?
Installation is a simple 10 minute affair, and a push-in rubber plug is provided to cover the hole in the firewall that’s left when you remove the tube.
